You must close Mocha Pro to switch back to AE. It's modal, meaning you can't click back to AE while Mocha is open. With Pro, you are locked into the Mocha interface. So you can easily switch between the Mocha interface and the AE interface just by clicking the windows. When you have the Mocha window open in the free version, you can pop back to AE easily to take a look at it if you need to. Lastly, the workflow in the free one is better than Pro IMHO. Also, there's a bug when pasting key frames in Pro that doesn't exist in the free version. This doesn't happen with the built in version. It's non-destructive (just for use with dark scenes) but still super annoying nonetheless. There's a bug with the way Pro handles color if you need to brighten a scene. In fact, it's actually better than the Pro version. I wish all the best to the developers. If you need tracking and roto, the free Mocha AE can't be beat. I chose Mocha but Lockdown is still a great, groundbreaking tool. Mocha is 700$ for a permanent seat (one host) and 300 on subscription… I’d say it’s a better price for what you get Lockdown as awesome as it is, is still kind of expensive when you think about it - If I remember correctly I paid around 300$ for a permanent license when it first came out Lockdown motion vectors pass render times were super long (I don’t know if they still use it though) Maybe someone else can comment on the newest version vs when it first came out.īoth work great on simple shots, on complex shots when things fail both are confusing to put things in place by hand That being said, i haven’t updated my lockdown in more than a year - and things changed a lot. Many clients and studios have it in the pipeline and it’s available in other softwares and OFX. Mocha is not just a mesh tracker and has a ton of awesome and production tested tools for planar tracking, inserts, removes etc.

I use mocha all the time anyway so it was only natural to keep everything in one tool.

I’d say both are pretty similar with what “the mesh” can do but I stopped using lockdown when power mesh was released. I have been using both in commercial work right from the moment they were released.
